Since then, the book has become a bestseller and has been translated into many languages. The author Bertha von Suttner, who was the first woman to receive the Nobel Peace prize in 1905, wrote this timeless novel about the fictive life story of Martha Althaus, a strong and modern woman who survived four wars on which she ruthlessly reported.
