Peace Palace

Message to Carnegie

Thanks to the donation of Andrew Carnegie, the Peace Palace in The Hague could be build and opened its doors in 1913. Exactly 100 years ago, in 1919, Andrew Carnegie passed away.

Nowadays the Peace Palace still facilitates ”Peace through law” and the employees of the Carnegie Foundation on a daily basis promote peace in order to prevent wars. We have the honor and the responsibility to take the legacy of Andrew Carnegie into its second century. But do we deliver what he asked for in his legacy? Can we translate his legacy and his ideas into the future?

Erik de Baedts, general director of the Carnegie Foundation | Peace Palace, summarizes all these questions in a message to Carnegie and gives a personal outlook for future peace activities.
