Each year 1500 students from over 120 countries are offered a two year intensive educational experience at one of the United World Colleges worldwide. Promising students aged 16-18 are selected by National Committees, based on personal merit and irrespective of race, religion and financial situation.

UWC is the only global educational NGO that brings students together from all over the world. These students come together at one of the United World Colleges that aim to foster international understanding and peace.
At the United World Colleges the students receive a challenging and practical formal tuition, but they also contribute to community service and a variety of outdoor and cultural activities
A short summer course, known as the UWC Youth Leadership Course, is organised each summer. Theme of this course is personal leadership on issues as integration and environment.
